My journey in graphic design first began with dabbling in drawing on my iPad with my dad, and he introduced me to graphic design and what it was. Since then, my love for digital design has grown and has taken me onto project that I would have never thought I’d be doing, in class and outside of class. Throughout my time of doing graphic design, I have learned a plethora of processes, techniques, strategies, tools, and many more things that will aid in my continuation in design. While designing many projects, I have figured out that the process of getting from point A to point B is not always crystal clear, and sometimes your direction completely changes in the midst of start to finish. During my start, I was a very strategic planner, meaning that I wanted the process to go a certain way, as projects have developed, I have noticed that being strategic is not always an aid in design, but being able to let go and let ideas generate will be your best friend. One of my favorites parts of my entire process is when I can sit down and listen to a podcast while knocking out 75+ sketches, and those moments are when I feel the most relaxed. While that is my favorite part of my process when working on a project, the first few sketches are always the hardest. Throughout my experience of designing, I have written appears and read articles on how designing really impacts how someone looks at the community, brand, packaging, and more. Throughout this experience I have learned that viewers look at things in a specific way, and if it does not bring them in or capture their eye then what is the significance of it? Something that is fascinating is how color and imagery can capture one and bring them in, and a perfect example of that is when someone walks into the store and buys something because they like the look of it. When looking at it from the designer’s view, it is interesting how specific colors, looks, and other additions can change the way a person views the item and if they want to even buy it. While I have learned a good bit already, I hope to continue to learn more about my own process and newer techniques that are more convenient or life changing for projects.
