Hi! Hello! My name is Kameron Carlson, and I am a current junior in the Graphic Design Concentration here at East Carolina University. Over the years, I have come to love all things dealing with a design after getting up close and personal. Whether it's something dealing with an interesting type of layout, or something conceptualizing a concept or idea, I am all here for it. As Graphic Designers, our crafts are our tools. We can make beautiful, interesting complexities out of absolutely nothing, and turn old drab designs into modern beauties. When I envision my future as a designer, it brings a smile to my face and a hop in my step every day thinking about what pushes me further. My passion is branding and packaging design. The concept that we can take a blank, empty canvas and change it into something completely different with so many beautiful designs is absolutely amazing and captivating. I love going out into the world and picking up any random object and studying it, paying close attention to the details. The behind the scenes process is also fascinating. Designers have many things to consider and take into account for when it comes to packaging design. It involves multiple elements. Typography, The language of type. Images and design elements are a way to capture attention and the space within. Designers must consider relationships between typefaces and find the perfect hierarchy to work with. On top of that, images and design elements must be carefully selected and thought out to bring everything together. As Graphic Designers, we work to bridge differences and solve problems through our designs. In the modern age, I think that designers are becoming less of problem solvers, and becoming more like the ones who are starting problems. I personally feel like our work has become far too simple, and all the same. Typography has become less of something creative and wild, and more of uniform dullness. Everything screams complacency and simpleness. I think we are losing our creative, wild, and innovative style to something convenient. Design, or rather the art of Design should never feel convenient. It should feel exciting. Inspiring. Meaningful. Designers should go back to those funky bold colors. Typefaces that scream risk, and make everything pop. One theme that you will find within my work addresses my feelings to the future and current standing of design. I like to use the typefaces and design elements in an ironic way to conceptualize my feelings.
