Graphic design is about solving problems which is why I was initially interested in this career. It teeters the line between fine art and applied/commercial art. Design can be an expression of feelings, informational, or even both. It works to find solutions on how to assimilate information in the most marketable and aesthetic way possible. As designers, we find resolutions to how to place thousands of words on paper or digital media that will make people respond and engage with it. I have fallen in love with this side of design. I love the challenge to find these solutions, through sketches, experimentation, and pushing the bounds of what is readable and effective. The reach of graphic design is powerful and beautiful. Your designs will reach people you have never met and have the power to change minds or share information.
As a student of entrepreneurship and design, I seek the intersection between creativity and innovation. Through self-reflection, I have discovered my passion for projects is kindled through the creation of a comprehensive brand or style guide. This gives my project direction even if it is as simple as a color scheme, fonts, and logo or trademark. This realization has helped me grow as a designer, but also in my appreciation of graphic design. No matter how simple or complex a project utilizing a style guide can only benefit my designs. With this knowledge, the beginning of my process begins with creating a simple style guide for the project which includes the color scheme, fonts, and logo or trademark. This is when I get excited about my project and make it my own.
I consider myself a versatile designer. If someone asks me which aspect of graphic design I am drawn to, I cannot decide. I love making branding but also publication, packaging, and UI/UX. I enjoy combining organic shapes with geometric ones. I love the challenge of creating a strong minimalist design. My hope is as I begin my career as a designer, I will continue to consider each letter, shape, symbol, period, etc. to create a visually pleasing and clear expression of information. I want to work to make every mark intentional and purposeful to best capture the clients' mission, aesthetic, and vision.
Design is the vehicle in that information is dispersed to the world. I hope my future career and designs will have a positive impact on people. My ultimate goal is that my designs will not only be advantageous to grow companies and their customers but also in dispersing vital information that benefits others.
